What Digital Signage technologies to expect at ISE 2024 exhibition

In 2023, the most popular and prestigious exhibition in the field of Digital Signage technologies - Integrated Systems Europe (ISE 2023) took place in Barcelona.

The exhibition served as a launching platform for numerous new Digital Signage technologies, showcasing leading innovators in technology and solution providers from around the world, offering a program of conferences, events, and experiences.

The exhibition and congress, spanning over 2,000 sq. m, was located in the heart of Fira. It was filled with innovations, networking opportunities, and industry organizations, bringing together numerous partners in one place. ISE united the key sectors that make up the global AV and systems integration industry.

Over 1,000 exhibitors were present on the exhibition grounds, allowing every visitor to explore a wide range of available solutions and learn about upcoming developments.

ISE 2023 featured leading global innovators in Digital Signage technologies and industry-leading brands such as Absen, Blackmagic Design, Barco, Christie, Crestron, Google, KNX, Lang, LG, Samsung, Shure, Sony, Logitech, Panasonic, Biamp, Maxhub, and many others.

What to Expect from the Integrated Digital Signage technologies Europe Exhibition in 2024?

Double-sided storefront displays with enhanced brightness for Digital Signage technologies

Store owners are willing to go to great lengths to attract customers. One means is to add dynamics to storefronts, and one solution is storefront displays. This year, Samsung introduced a new series of professional displays, OMN/OMN-D, capable of displaying content brightly and clearly even in direct sunlight, attracting attention in any weather conditions. The devices have a brightness of 4,000 nits and high contrast of 5,000:1. The new product will be available in two sizes: 46 and 55 inches.

On double-sided displays (OMN-D series), content is displayed both in the outdoor storefront and indoors, providing an opportunity to interest visitors inside and outside the store simultaneously. Information to the displays is delivered via Wi-Fi, minimizing the number of wires. The thickness is approximately 5.5 cm. It is noticeable how each year this equipment becomes thinner, more elegant, and, most importantly, brighter.

High-quality full-length images for Digital Signage technologies

Improving image quality, 100% color coverage, and a thin frame are growing trends in recent years. And if a couple of years ago developers presented displays with 4K resolution, all innovations since 2019 in this area are related to 8K. For example, Samsung Electronics’ new QLED displays for fashion retail allow showing a person in full height. When receiving standard resolution content, the displays reproduce it in 8K standard, conveying the finest color shades and creating an immersive effect. For visitors, this is undoubtedly attention-grabbing, and for advertisers (e.g., product manufacturers), it is convenient, as there is no need to adapt content to the new format. Size — 82 inches. Thickness — less than 40 mm.

Interactive screens: for different types of stores for Digital Signage technologies

The topic of interactive screens, it seems, can be endlessly developed for absolutely any retail. For example, in a car showroom, a buyer can play with the color, model, equipment of the car, assemble the car they want to leave the store with in the end.

Transparent displays for Digital Signage technologies

Digital Signage technologies has long ceased to be a novelty, but judging by the large number of exhibitors, manufacturers see great prospects in it. With transparent displays in the storefront window, you can broadcast information about promotions, launch advertising videos, place attention-grabbing video content related to the store’s theme. The solution allows broadcasting digital content, whether it’s text or images, without covering the storefront but seemingly above it. Turned off screens look like regular glass. The solution is interesting for use in shopping centers and street retail.

Interactive refrigerators for Digital Signage technologies

Logical development found in refrigeration equipment. Several companies introduced refrigerators with touch panels. Moreover, more often than not, innovations are developed by companies specializing in digital solutions and signage. They begin to collaborate with manufacturers of commercial refrigeration equipment, turning the walls of the refrigerator into a transparent liquid crystal display, so that the equipment can not only cool drinks but also advertise them.

Interactive Tables for Digital Signage technologies

Interactive multi-sensor systems are now being produced not only in the form of wall panels but also as tables and walls using touchscreens and object recognition technology. Using such a gadget is quite simple — you take the product and place it on the table, and the table provides complete information about that product, from composition and color variations to usage tips. For example, if it’s a car, you can learn about its internal structure. If it’s food, you can check the ingredients, where it was produced, and the recipe for preparation. This technology is interesting for showrooms and flagship stores.

Touch Kiosk for Digital Signage technologies

Toys for shoppers are limited only by the developer’s imagination. Instead of ordering coffee from a cashier, a digital kiosk from LG assists. With sugar or without, large, medium, or small, hot, or cold — the machine offers the finest adjustments for the most demanding.

Smart Mirrors Get Smarter for Digital Signage technologies

Smart mirrors have been used in retail for several years. For example, in the Central Children’s Store on Lubyanka, a mirror is installed in the corridor and entertains visitors passing by. Since its installation, several years have passed, and mirrors have become “smarter.” New models not only entertain shoppers by releasing butterflies but also provide information about the product. It works like this: you take a product — look into the mirror, the product is recognized, and information about it appears on the mirror screen. Several solutions of this kind were presented.

Holograms for Digital Signage technologies

3D holograms are already widely used in Western retail, but in Ukraine, you rarely come across them. Equipment manufacturers themselves say that the use of holograms increases the sales of the advertised product by about a third. Agree, a spinning and unfolding hamburger looks very appetizing. At the exhibition, this technology was presented by the Chinese company Spectrum, promising the latest high-tech image processing technologies, high resolution: 640 * 640 pixels, 320 LED lamps, and 16 GB of built-in memory in holographic 3D fans.

Smart Shelves for Digital Signage technologies

The solution was invented quite a while ago, but it is not yet used in Ukrainian retail, although some global retailers have already tested the Digital Signage technologies. The photo shows how it is implemented for cosmetics stores by Samsung. When a buyer picks up a product, information about that model is displayed on the screen — from composition and usage recommendations to the price.

Artificial Intelligence for Digital Signage technologies

Intelligent Digital Signage technologies are an effective and functional modern tool for attracting consumers. They allow implementing a personalized approach to customers, which positively affects sales. However, it is essential to distinguish between artificial intelligence and analytics in the conventional sense. Companies that create software more often apply not actual artificial intelligence but analysis methods based on this technology.

Artificial intelligence technologies for Digital Signage technologies are currently continuing to improve to significantly accelerate the information processing process and provide higher quality delivery. The less time the program takes to conduct an analysis, the higher consumers will appreciate the offered service. For example, when entering a restaurant hall, a visitor can immediately receive a personalized offer created based on their preferences, and in a store, a buyer choosing a swimsuit can see advertising for sun protection products.

The analysis of personal data — gender and age, preferences, lifestyle and profession, purchase history, etc., as well as recognition mechanisms, is necessary for implementing a personalized approach in advertising. The recognition process is more complex since it involves various sensors, video surveillance systems, and other devices. Thanks to the implementation of recognition mechanisms, the system can welcome a visitor entering the store by name, tell them about discounts on products of interest, and analyze consumer behavior to determine which content is best to broadcast for a particular person at a given time.
